Verlan Jerome Berry of Level Plains, AL passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp, AL. He was 60.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Kenny Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until service time.
Jerome worked as a mechanic, automotive machinist, locksmith and an offshore production operator. He was a NASCAR and stock car racing enthusiast working in the Carolinas, as well as locally, as a pit crew member. He also drove stock cars and won several races locally.
He was an avid Alabama football fan. He also loved to hunt and fish. He was once a Karaoke DJ and loved to sing. He also completed an extensive genealogy research on both sides of his family.
Jerome loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He has really missed his mother since her passing and is now at home with her in heaven. He also loved his family and many friends. He will surely be missed by all.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, Verlan Berry and Lonie Pearl Berry McInnis; two brothers, David Berry and John Paul Berry; and his wife, Debbie Thomas Berry.
Survivors include his brother, Edward Berry, Level Plains, AL; a nephew, John Edward Berry, Level Plains, AL; stepchildren, Jenice Kilpatrick and David Allen “Bubba” Kilpatrick.
