Samuel O’Neal Boswell, Sr., 84, of Enterprise, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins State Veterans Home in Enterprise.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Command Sergeant Major Bennie G. Adkins Veterans Home Activities Fund.
Born to the late Samuel Canada Boswell and Mila Hussey Boswell, he grew up in a large family and carried forward the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion that defined his life.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served with distinction during multiple tours in the Vietnam War. For his courage and dedication, he earned numerous medals and commendations, including the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Driver Mechanic Badge, Air Mechanic Bar, Air Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. His service exemplified honor and patriotism.
After his military career, Samuel entered the auto industry in 1969 as a salesman and worked his way up through determination and skill, eventually achieving his dream of owning a dealership. In 1995, he proudly put his name on Sam Boswell Honda in Enterprise. He built the business on a foundation of trust and integrity, growing it into a success that positively impacted countless lives through employment, fair dealings, and community support. In 2009, he sold the dealership to his son, O’Neal, and it has since expanded to four dealerships across two states—all still proudly carrying the Boswell name as a symbol of reliability and community commitment.
Sam was a true lover of people—he never met a stranger and was always eager to lend a hand to anyone in need. A generous supporter of the Wiregrass region, he actively backed local schools, the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, United Way, Relay for Life, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wiregrass Wounded Veterans Committee, and many other organizations. After retiring, he spent his days in quiet acts of service: helping elderly neighbors cut their yards, taking shut-ins for rides or bringing them lunch, and maintaining a morning call list to check on those living alone. As time passed and his ability to call faded, the roles reversed—friends and loved ones began calling to check on him, completing a beautiful circle of care. The family is deeply grateful for everyone who reached out with phone calls, visits, and outings in his final months; each one was treasured by him and greatly appreciated by us.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Canada Boswell and Mila Hussey Boswell; and his thirteen brothers and sisters
Survivors include his loving wife, Jane Ezell Boswell of Enterprise, AL; two daughters, Tina Marie Carlo of Inlet Beach, FL, and Lori Griffin (Cameron) of Helena, AL; one son, Samuel O’Neal Boswell Jr. (Terri) of Enterprise, AL; three grandchildren, Blaine Griffin, Grayson Carlo, and Ashton Carlo; one brother, Gerald Boswell of Elba, AL; sister-in-law, Margaret Ezell Flowers (Bobby) and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff of the Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins State Veterans Home and DaySpring Hospice for their compassionate care and unwavering support.
In honoring his memory, we celebrate a man whose legacy of service—to his country, his family, his business, and his community—will endure for generations. He touched countless lives with kindness and will be deeply missed.
