Ruth Katharina Konkle

Ruth Katharina Konkle of Daleville, AL passed away in her home peacefully on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was 85. Born in Germany, Ruth met her husband Tom, and settled in Daleville where they built a beautiful life full of love, friendship, and complete devotion to all her loved ones.

Private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Ruth found true joy in shopping for gifts for her extended family, always thinking of others with warmth and generosity. Some of her happiest moments were spent gathered around the table, sharing coffee, laughter, and stories with her family and close friends. A talented cook and gracious host, she loved opening her home to others. Ruth cherished her friendships deeply and would often gather with her dear friends to enjoy coffee and conversation, frequently in her beloved German language.

She was a mother not only to her own children but a guiding light and matriarch to the entire family, playing an active role in the upbringing of many. As a devoted military spouse, she stood proudly beside her beloved husband, Mr. Tom, throughout his 32 years of service to our country. Ruth had a passion for decorating and took pride in always being impeccably dressed—whether attending church, a doctor’s appointment, or simply running errands. Her elegance, generosity, and love for her family and friends were at the heart of who she was.

Mrs. Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter, Renee Murray, and her parents, Vitus and Maria Schmid.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Tom Konkle, Daleville, AL; son, Danny Konkle (Kathy), Huntsville, AL; granddaughter, Lauren Smith, Opelika, AL; grandson, Mike Murray (Denise), Angier, NC; and three great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Smith, Karlie Smith, and Max Murray.
