Frank McHenry, 88, of Enterprise, AL, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 11, 2025. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 10, 2026, at First Methodist Church Enterprise with Rev. Matt Jordan officiating and Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Methodist Church, 217 Main Street, Enterprise, AL 36330, St Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105, or SOS Animal Shelter 25944 Highway 134, Enterprise, AL 36330.

Frank was born on December 22, 1936, in West Pittston, PA to the late Jack W. and Maxine B. McHenry. Frank grew up on his grandparent’s farm in Stillwater, PA. He attended 1st through 8th grade in a one room schoolhouse just down the road from the farm. He attended and was baptized at Stillwater Christian Church. He graduated from Benton High School (PA) in 1955. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1957 and after basic training at Lackland AFB he completed Electronics School at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. He was then assigned to the 753rd Aircraft Control & Warning (AC&W) Squadron in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. It was here that he met the love of his life, Janet Ellen Hamilton. He received an Honorable Discharge on January14, 1961 and they were married on January 21, 1961. He went to work for General Electric in Syracuse, NY in 1961, where his daughter Beth was born. In 1964 he went to work for the Link Division of General Precision of Binghamton, NY after they had gotten a big contract for the simulators on the NASA Apollo Space Project. In 1967 he was asked to help install the Apollo Command Module Simulator at the NASA Flight Crew Training Building at Cape Canaveral, FL. After the installation was finished, he was asked to stay and help maintain and help with the training of the Apollo astronauts on the Command and Lunar Module Simulators. He moved his family to Coca Beach, FL and later to Titusville, FL, where his son Eric was born. He always liked to say to young people, “If a country boy like me could end up working with the Apollo Astronauts, then anyone can set a goal and follow it if they are willing to work hard!” In 1973, at the close of the Apollo Space Program, he moved his family to League City, TX near Johnson Space Center where he went to work on the Sky Lab Simulator and eventually the prototype for the Space Shuttle Simulator. In 1974, his company had job openings at Fort Rucker, AL on the helicopter simulators and since it was close to Panama City Beach, FL he decided to take the job and he moved his family to Enterprise, AL where they have called it home for the last 51 years. Frank would retire on March 1, 2007, the same day of the Enterprise Tornado. Frank’s faith in Jesus Christ was the center point of his life. He loved to spend time talking to God and reading his bible as well as reading books on Christian Discipleship, WWII and the Indians of the American West. Since 1974, he has been a member of First Methodist Church Enterprise. Frank always put God first in everything he did. He also loved his family and his country with great pride.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Janet Ellen McHenry, Enterprise, AL; daughter, Beth McHenry, Lexington, SC; son, Eric McHenry, Enterprise, AL; two sisters, Mary Evans, Stillwater, PA; Jackie Lindner, Stillwater, PA; brother, Dan McHenry, Stillwater, PA; eight nieces and three nephews.
