Ollie Thenitha “Polly” Stokes, 92, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, after a short stay in the hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, November 7, 2025 at El Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Don Tew officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 AM until service time.
She was born in Samson, Alabama on September 3, 1933. She was married for 63 years to Virgil “Doc” Stokes until his death September 30, 2015. Polly was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, a devoted wife and mother of five children. Polly had the heart of a servant, she served her Lord, her church, her husband and her family. She loved to travel. Mom and dad went back and forth and up and down across this country many times. She also would go on youth church trips as a chaperone, take trips with her friends and she especially loved going to the beach. She has stayed very active in making blankets for the homeless and crocheting hats for Samaritans Purse Christmas boxes. She loved taking walks every day around her apartment complex, not for exercise, but to TALK to whomever she caught outside.
Polly was preceded in death by her husband Virgil “Doc”, son-in-law Floyd Rodgers, her brothers Robert Stafford and Troyce Lanton; her sister A.L. “Smoky” Brabham.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Rodgers; son, Ricky Stokes and his wife Pam; son, Randy Stokes and his wife Lorrie; son, Robin Stokes and his wife Ann; son, Raymond Stokes and his wife Julie; grandchildren, Joyce Morgan; Randy Jr Stokes and his wife Catarina; Mitchell Stokes and his wife Amanda; Melissa Stokes, Abigail Mixon and her husband Logan; Hannah Lively and her husband Caleb; Grace Wood and her husband Andy; Ben Stokes and his wife Lily; Caleb Stokes and his wife Taylor; Faith Elliott and her husband Dominique; Hope Stokes; Crystal Bell and her husband Brad; Catherine Galimore and her husband Bo; Jennifer Martinez and her husband Richard; Stefanie Davis and her husband Jon Paul; 25 great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
