Olene H. Howell, 89, of Chancellor, AL, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 4, 2023. Olene was born in Geneva County, AL., to George and Bessie Lee Howell on April 21, 1934. Olene graduated from Coffee Springs High School. She was a Baptist by faith from early childhood and loved her Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church family. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Loyd (Chick) Howell and son, David Howell. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, September 8, 2023 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Karl Hudson officiating. Private family burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church. Olene loved Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and served the church faithfully for many years. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials in her memory to Mt Pleasant Baptist Church General Fund, 4015 Highway 27, Enterprise, AL 36330. “Gmama”, “Grandma”, “Gmammy” as she was affectionally known, is survived by four children, Kenneth Howell (Becky), Southside, AL; Kathy Day (Charlie Abernathy), Enterprise, AL; Clay Howell, Chancellor, AL; Kim Beck (Vance), Phenix City, AL. She is survived by six grandsons serving as Pallbearers; Jake Howell, Zac Howell (Emily), Brandon Howell (Hayden), Ryan Howell (Samantha Rowan), Trey Beck (Samantha) and James Beck; three granddaughters serving as Honorary Pallbearers; Shawn Howell, Amanda Byrd (Greg Adams), and Kaylee Howell; seven precious great grandchildren Pompy Pittman, MaryBeth Pittman, Amy Pittman, Addie Pittman, Lainey Beck, Ava Klaire Howell and Greyton Adams; bonus grands Shaun Day, Reilly Abernathy, Griffin Abernathy. She is survived by a brother, Ed Howell, sister Frances Oates, and in-laws Wanda (Lamar) Thornton, Margie Bowden, and Janice Bowden. She retired after many years from Fort Rucker Civil Service Transportation Department. She enjoyed getting together with her former coworkers for lunch occasionally. She loved working in her garden and sharing her harvests with family and friends. Her pepper jelly and blackberry jelly were favorites. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking her chicken dumplings and dressing at holidays and special occasions. Her grandchildren especially loved her pancakes when they came to visit. She was an expert seamstress and loved sewing heirloom clothing for them to wear when they were young. She also enjoyed spending time with friends at the Mt. Pleasant Senior Center playing cards.
