Mitchell Thompson Triplett Sr. (Colonel Ret.), USMC, passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 10, 2022, at home with family. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, 10 Providence Lane, Daleville, AL. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Martha McCreary Triplett; daughter, Katherine Julia, granddaughter, Reese Katherine; daughter, Amanda Eleanor (Pete), New Bern, NC; son, Sergeant Mitchell Thompson Triplett Jr., USMC, wife, Nicole Irene, and grandson, Theodore Thompson. Colonel Triplett was a native of Clayhatchee, AL. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and served from March of 1968 to April 1969 in The Republic of Vietnam. Upon his return, he attended Auburn University graduating in 1973 and entered Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in June of that year. After receiving his commission, Colonel Triplett was assigned to United States Navy flight training, in NAS Pensacola, FL and was awarded Wings of Gold in 1975. During his career Colonel Triplett flew both rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft. He commanded Marine Attack Squadron 223 and Marine Aircraft Group 14 at MCAS Cherry Point, NC. Colonel Triplett retired in 2000 after serving over 30 years in the United States Marine Corps. His personal military decorations include the Purple Heart with gold star, Navy Commendation Medal with combat ā€œVā€, and Combat Action Ribbon.
