Mary Alice Gainey

Mary Alice Gainey passed away June 14, 2026, in Enterprise, AL after a sudden illness.

A homegoing service will be held at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 2:00 pm; visitation at 1:00 pm. In lieu of food or flowers, the family asks that a donation might be made on Mary's behalf to the Dress a Girl Around the World campaign at https://www.dressagirlaroundtheworld.com/.

Born on March 26,1939, she lived with a spirit of generosity and joy. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing flags and uniforms for the Enterprise High School band, making clothes for children in need around the world, and quilting with her lovely sewing circle. She relished being able to make alterations for her children and grandchildren, even switching to use safety pins when her granddaughter complained about being poked one too many times. She enjoyed entertaining and playing cards with a close-knit group of friends and traveled to many places in her youth with them as well. She could nurture even the smallest cutting into a vibrant flower or plentiful harvest, but she did not pass this green thumb on to her daughter or granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her beloved sister Verlon Whitehead; son Phillip Gainey; granddaughter Jessica Gainey; and great-granddaughter, McKenzie Gainey.

She is survived by her daughter, Denelia (DeeDee) Harris; grandchildren Allison, Tyler, and John (Ashley), and great-grandchildren Beckett Harris and Trey Pittman, as well as her sister-in-law Jeanette Compton (Billy); brother-in-law Randy Gainey (Chrissy); her sister Brenda Price (Joel), and her life-long best friend Mary Alice Titchenell.
