Major Mitchell Johnson of Level Plains, AL passed away peacefully Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Elba Rehabilitation and Wellness Center. He was 76.
No services are scheduled at this time.
Major had a deep love for hot rods, spending countless hours building, collecting, and sharing his passion with his son, Chris. A devoted dog lover, he never met a dog he didn’t enjoy. While he was born in Germany, he spent his childhood in South Carolina, then as an adult he moved to Florida to enjoy the coastal life. Later in life, he moved to Alabama to be closer to Chris and treasured the time he spent with his son and daughter-in-law. Major was happiest building cars with his son and spending time at the shop with his pups. A hardworking man, he spent his career driving an 18-wheeler, traveling the open road with the same independent spirit that defined his life.
He was preceded in death by his son Michael Johnson and parents Major and Hazel Johnson.
Survivors include his son, Chris Johnson (Hannah), New Brockton, AL; other extended family members mostly residing in South Carolina.
