Lyra Baker Boyd

Lyra Baker Boyd passed away at her home in Enterprise, AL, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, five months after her 100th birthday.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, September 5, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church, Enterprise with Rev. Chris Thomas and Rev. Mike McQueen officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 100 Daleville Avenue, Enterprise, AL 36330.

Born March 13, 1925, in Florala, Alabama, Lyra grew up on the shore of Lake Jackson. Following high school, she graduated from Jefferson - Hillman School of Nursing in Birmingham (now UAB), as a Registered Nurse. She began work at the Gibson Hospital in Enterprise, AL, where she met Julian H. Boyd. They married in 1949 and lived the remainder of their lives in Enterprise where they raised five children and welcomed a plethora of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in in death by her husband Julian Herbert Boyd and son-in-law Robert Charles May.

Survivors include her three daughters, Susan May, Norma Desert (Tom), and Lyra Fran Nelson (John); two sons, Julian R. Boyd (Debra) and Ray T. Boyd (Sherri); fifteen grandchildren and thirty-seven great-grandchildren.
