Lynn Elrod Irwin of Enterprise, AL dedicated, wife, mother, sister, mother, grandmother and educator joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday, May 6, 2026. She was 61.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 pm, Monday, May 11, 2026, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Rob Paul and Dr. Ben Bowden officiating and Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until service time. In lieu of Flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Troy Animal Rescue Project (TARP). The family would like to encourage those in attendance at Lynn’s service to wear orange and/or blue.

Lynn was born in Sylacauga, AL and moved to Selma when she was three, where she formed many lifelong friendships and met her high school sweetheart, Bruce. She attended Troy University from 1982 until 1984, got married and later completed her undergraduate degree at Auburn University Montgomery in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She easily adapted to life as a Marine then Army wife, where Bruce’s military career took them to places all around the world. In 1998, the family moved to Coffee County, which they would establish as their forever home.

Lynn was passionate about continuing her education and growing as an educator, she completed two Masters degrees, an Educational Specialists degree and proudly completed her PhD at Auburn University in 2013. Even before this accomplishment, she was an avid Auburn fan. In the Fall months you would find her either on The Plains or in front of the television cheering her heart out for the Tigers.

Those who knew her would describe her as a force. She brought high energy and unstoppable personality in so many aspects of her life, including friendships, fashion, cooking, and in the field of education which she served for 38 years. Lynn loved nothing more than her family, her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life. She was so proud of each and every one of their accomplishments and she never let them go a day without knowing how much she loved them.

Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Ronald W. and Louise W. Elrod.

Survivors include her husband, Bruce K. Irwin, Enterprise, AL; two daughters, Cameron Irwin Sanford (Jon), Homewood, AL; Catherine Irwin Thomas (Taylor) Enterprise, AL; brother, Michael W. Elrod (Julie), Wetumpka, AL; five grandchildren, Hazel, Walton, Smith, Watts, and Phillip; and numerous nieces and nephews.

We would like to express our appreciation to the emergency room staff at Andalusia Health, the PHI crew from Enterprise that transported her, the emergency room staff and especially the Intensive Care Unit staff at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. This experience reminded the family why blood donations are so important, we encourage anyone that can, to donate blood.
