Karen Bowden, age 70, of Enterprise, AL, passed away, Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Southeast Health in Dothan, AL. Karen was born in Dothan, AL to her dear parents, Grace and Roscoe Hughes. She graduated from Dothan High in 1969. She always wanted a little brother and finally, when she was 23 years old, her wish was granted with the birth of Rusty. Karen graduated from Troy State University where she met the love of her life, Jimmy Bowden. They raised two children at Route 1 New Brockton, AL with the kind of love and charm that fairy tales are made of. She taught Special Education in Enterprise City Schools for 29 years and touched numerous lives. She loved to tell stories and make people laugh (usually poking fun at herself). To use the language she would have used to describe others, “She was a hoot.” Her greatest joy and privilege was being “Sugie,” the affectionate name given to her when she became a grandmother. Mrs. Bowden was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Bowden and her parents, Grace and Roscoe Hughes. Survivors include her daughter, Abby Tippins (Scott); son, Dr. Ben Bowden (Lindsay); brother, Rusty Hughes (Deana), 9 grandchildren, Ella Grace Tippins, James Tippins, Benjamin Tippins, Libby Bowden, Susie Bowden, Annie Bowden, George Bowden, Jake Bowden and Cater Bowden; niece, Mary Ryan Hughes and nephew, Nicholas Hughes. Special Thanks to Center Home Care, Shunda Rivers, Kim Prescott, and the caring staff at Southeast Health.
