June Griffin Murphy was born on May 23, 1951 at Gibson Hospital in Enterprise, Alabama to Betty and Johnny Griffin. Her childhood years were spent in Enterprise, and then in Jackson, Alabama. June was baptized at First Baptist Church of Jackson. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1969, and attended the University of South Alabama.
June worked as a secretary/assistant in several businesses and institutions, including the Florida Baptist Children’s Home in Tallahassee, Florida. She married Tom Murphy from Massachusetts in 1981, enjoying a loving union with him until his death in 1988. June was a strong Christian and a true people person. A gifted writer, she loved animals and the color purple. She was pure in heart and always looked for the good in others. She dearly loved her family and friends. June was a fun, loving aunt to her nephews Drew and Jared.
Due to health issues including early-onset dementia, June required residential care at Enterprise Health and Rehabilitation for the past fifteen years. She was known by fellow residents and staff members as one who regularly brightened their day and encouraged them with her smile and kind words.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tom Murphy, her father Johnny Griffin, paternal grandparents Lehman and Eva Griffin, maternal grandparents Preston and Ruby Marchman and her aunt Fay Vaughn.
She is survived by her mother Betty Wheeler, her sister Diane Davis (Bill), her stepson Tom Murphy III, her aunts Joan Brogden and Gail Speigner, her uncle Wayne Griffin, her nephews Drew Davis (Christa) and Jared Davis, and her great nephews Hayden Barnes and Cooper Davis. Her cousins include Mac Griffin (Laura), Robyn Speigner and Lee Blount (Zack) and children. June went home to be with Jesus on October 16, 2026.
A celebration of June’s life will be held at County Line Baptist Church at 1000 Hwy 92 Enterprise, Alabama on Saturday, October 24. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM with a service to follow at 11:00 AM. All are welcome.
