James D. Tyson

James D. Tyson of Dothan, AL passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at his home. He was born July 17, 1944. He graduated Enterprise High School in 1962.

The family will receive friends at Calvary Baptist Church from 1:00 PM until service time. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 14, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church in Dothan, AL with Dr. Paul Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery in Enterprise, AL with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Taunton Children’s Home, PO Box 870, Wewahitchka, FL or the Missions Team at Calvary Baptist Church, 901 Montezuma Avenue, Dothan, AL 36303.

Mr. Tyson was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Matthew James Tyson.

Mr. Tyson was President of the Home Builders Association of Dothan and the Wiregrass Area in 1983. He was the Home Builders Association of Dothan-Wiregrass Area Builder of the Year in 1984. Since the 1970’s, he built homes in Alabama, Georgia and Florida. He loved to bream fish every chance he got. He was an avid arrowhead hunter and collector. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School at Lafayette United Methodist Church for over 20 years. He was an active member at Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Joyce Holmes Tyson, Dothan, AL ; 2 sons, Chadwick James Tyson (Mary Alice), Dothan, AL and Troy Marion Tyson (Michele), Dothan, AL; 4 grandchildren, Lauren Tyson Downey (Spencer), Emma Brooke Tyson, Ethan Jeremy Tyson, Owen Marion Tyson; and a sister, Jeanelle Wright, Columbus, GA.
