Jackie Sue Redman was born in Gadsden, Alabama to Mr John Egbert Redman and Kathleen Hubbard Redman, April 21,1936. She grew up in Gadsden, Alabama during the simpler times, enjoying close friendships and being a part of the school choir. Jackie was a member of First Baptist church and enjoyed spending summers at Shocco Springs. She graduated from Gadsden High and then pursued an education in Home Economics at Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, graduating in the spring of 1957. She taught for a year at Smiths Station before moving to Enterprise where she taught Home Economics.
While in Enterprise, she met many life-long friends, including Billy Warren, who introduced her to his cousin, Brown Bryars. Jackie and Brown married July 25, 1959, and moved to the country where they updated a farm house just north of town. They had a small farm and she taught until around the birth of their first child in September of 1960. In 1965, she and Brown opened Bryars, selling fine ladies' apparel until their retirement in 1998. She was an excellent seamstress for many years, working on store alterations and sewing for her children.
Jackie was an active business woman serving as a member of the Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Downtown Unlimited group. Jackie was nominated for Enterprise Woman of the Year in the 1990s. As a young woman, she became a member of First United Methodist Church Enterprise, serving faithfully with VBS, Sunday school, served on several committees, including a chairman of Circle 6, and taught MYF for 16 years. She was also a member of the Harborlites adult Sunday school class and a teacher until 2018.
Jackie was a Lifetime Member of the Sesame Study Club and served as a past president, attending and hosting club meetings. She was a Lifetime Member of the Auburn Alumni Association. She and Brown were members of the 1856 Society, The Samford Society and The Foy Society. They were season ticket holders and members of Tigers Unlimited. In 2001, she was a founding member of The Women’s Philanthropy Board affiliated with the School of Human Sciences.
In their later years, Jackie and Brown enjoyed many trips to Auburn, Sunnyside Beach with family, where she was a board member of the Sunnyside Beach POA, and traveling with friends. Mrs. Bryars was known for her dedication and service to the city of Enterprise and First Methodist Church. She loved helping women in their store and made memorable relationships. She enjoyed homemaking, hosting, cooking in her kitchen, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, August 4, 2025, at First Methodist Church of Enterprise with Rev. Matt Jordan officiating. A private burial will be held at Enterprise City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Methodist Church, PO Box 311525, Enterprise, AL 36331.
Mrs. Bryars had one sister, Jane, who died at a very young age. She was married to her husband of 63 plus years, Albert Brown Bryars, Jr. who passed in March of 2023.
Jackie is survived by her children: Susan Russell (Paul), Enterprise, Laura Harris, Wetumpka, AL., Albert Brown Bryars, III (Starla) Enterprise. Grandchildren – Joey Russell, Auburn, AL, Katie Russell Hutto (Alex), Mansfield, GA, Melanie Harris Browning (Jacobe), Millbrook, AL, Will Harris (Brianna), Birmingham, AL, Jonathan Bryars, Enterprise, Jillian Harris Parrish (Brett), Birmingham, AL, and Lindsey Bryars Tharpe (Tristan), Newton, AL. Great Grand Children Ridge Harris and Bobbie Hutto.
She was loved and cared for these last few years by the dedicated teams at Enterprise Health & Rehabilitation. Momma’s Hall 7 nursing teams and caregivers became her second family. We are thankful to the pastoral team at First Methodist Church for visits, prayers, calls, cards and encouragement.
