Hugh Harris Rhodes of Enterprise, AL, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at his home. He was 91.

Born as Hugh Harris Wynn in Sumatra, Florida, on 25 April 1934 to Norman and Marie Harris Wynn, and lived with his single mother and several different families until he was seven years old, when his mother married 2LT Thomas Wayne Rhodes in Columbus, GA. They moved to Slippery Rock, Pa., to live with Hugh’s new grandparents, Paul E. and Blanch Rhodes, at “Rhodes Tourist Home”.

In 1945, after the return of his adopted father, the family moved to Meadville, PA, and then to northern Pennsylvania, where he attended the seventh and eighth grades in a one-room school with one teacher. In 1950, the family moved to Conneautville, PA, from which Hugh graduated high school in 1952. It was during this time that Hugh was legally adopted by Thomas Wayne Rhodes.

With the financial help of his uncle, Abe Scandret Harris, Hugh attended Florida State University and graduated in 1957. He was commissioned as a 2LT in the U.S. Army.

His military service included three tours of duty in Vietnam, four years in Germany, and the final four years with the Aviation Test Board. After retiring from the Army, he enjoyed a second career instructing initial entry students in primary helicopter flight.

Survivors include his daughter, Anna Kay and her three sons, Andrew, Charles, and Robin; his wife of 38 years, Jennie Wall Currie Rhodes and her children, Britt, Cynthia, and Currie and their children, David, Cameron, Holden, Avery, Campbell, Larson, Parker, Cooper and Ansley and great granddaughter, Elsie Wilson.

Hugh applied himself to learning about God and the teachings of Jesus. His love of his fellow man predominated his life.
