Gregory Michael Sawka

Gregory Sawka of Enterprise, AL, passed away Friday, July 11, 2025, at Southeast Medical Center. He was 63.

Gregory was a volunteer firefighter at the age of 16. He served honorably as a smoke jumper in the United States Air Force before continuing his military career in hazmat firefighting. He also retired from civil service at Ft. Rucker, AL as a firefighter. His career was marked by courage and commitment, traveling across the country and beyond to battle wildfires. As a smokejumper, Gregory faced some of the most dangerous and remote fire zones, always putting the safety of others above his own.

His passion for firefighting was matched by his love for NASCAR. A devoted fan, Gregory followed the sport closely and took great pride in his extensive collection of NASCAR memorabilia. His enthusiasm was infectious, and his knowledge of the sport was unmatched.

He was preceded in death by his parents Tony and Hearlen Sawka.

Survivors include his son Michael Sawka, Crestview, FL; along with 1 sister and 2 brothers.
