Glennie was the eleventh child born to Ellafair Cook Mathews and Jack John Mathews on September 7, 1924, in Elba, Coffee County, Alabama.

Glennie was a lifelong resident of Coffee County, residing in her own home since 1947. She was a loyal and faithful member of her beloved Park Avenue Baptist Church, as long as her health allowed, even attending worship service on Mother’s Day 2025. Her faith in the Lord was strong and she loved her church family.

Glennie had a 30-year career in the textile industry in Enterprise. After her retirement, Glennie volunteered with a local hospice organization, tirelessly, visiting numerous patients in hospitals and nursing homes.

Glennie was a virtuous woman (Proverbs 31:13-31), who was an inspiration to her family and friends, keeping an immaculate house and yard, while employed full time. She exemplified the qualities of faith, courage, diligence, kindness, wisdom, and devotion. She was a dedicated wife and an exceptional mother, inspiring her daughter to develop the strength and the fortitude to deal with the challenges of life.

Glennie loved flowers and was an avid gardener. One of her greatest joys in life was working in her yard and flower beds. She was a marvelous cook, preparing delicious meals and desserts for friends and family. Her recipes will be treasured for many years (especially her pound cake).

Glennie was preceded in death by her parents, eleven brothers and sisters, and her husband of 61 years, Thomas Eugene Salter.

Glennie is survived by her daughter, Teresa Ellen Salter (Gene Mitchell) of Enterprise and Panama City Beach; two special nieces, Bettye Bradshaw and Barbara Marler, of Enterprise; and several other nieces and nephews.

Special thanks are expressed to her excellent caregivers (Mattie, Darlene, and Linda) and to DaySpring Hospice, for providing exceptional and compassionate care.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.”

2 Timothy 4: 7-8
