Gladys Jane Merrihew

Gladys Jane Merrihew of Enterprise, AL passed away Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Flowers Hospital. She was 73.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 5, 2025 at First Baptist Church Level Plains with Rev. Kenny Carter officiating and Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 AM until service time. Mrs. Jane exemplified the values of service and commitment, notably through her involvement with the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Her dedication to these organizations not only reflected her strong sense of patriotism but also highlighted her desire to support those who served their country. Mrs. Jane found joy and fulfillment in her participation with her ladies' Bible study group at First Baptist Church of Level Plains. This community of faith provided her with a source of strength and encouragement, reinforcing her belief in the importance of putting God first in all aspects of her life.  

Mrs. Jane was also known for her enthusiasm for shopping, a pastime that brought her much joy. Above all, she cherished her family, dedicating her time and energy to be a source of love and support for them. Mrs. Jane’s life was marked by her kindness, resilience, and her profound devotion to her loved ones. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of her company.

Mrs. Merrihew was preceded in death by her parents, Ben Tom and Dorothy Nell Browning, and brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Pat Browning.

Survivors include her loving husband of 42 years, Gerry Merrihew, Enterprise, AL; three daughters, Melissa Vanlandingham (Randy), Level Plains, AL; Aimee Philbrook (James), Colchester, VT; Robyn Hatgigannis (Peter), South Hero, VT; two sons, Darby Merrihew (Monica), Fairfax, VT; Timothy Hedges (Jennifer), Godley, TX; eleven grandchildren, Jakob, Jordyn, Cameron (Michelle), Amanda (Jason), Brittney (Max), Kyle, Travis, Brandon, Cody, Dallas, and Benjamin (Ashley); eight great-grandchildren, Marilyn, Madison, Lucas, Eric, Enzo, Remi, Blake, and Lou.
