George Robert Adams of Enterprise, AL passed away Monday, June 9, 2025 at Flowers Hospital. He was 77.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with David Woodham and Jerry Hohman officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time.
George proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1972, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-5). His commendable service included two tours in Vietnam, where he became the first individual to graduate from military language school, mastering Vietnamese. His proficiency in the language played a pivotal role as he translated communications crucial for calling in air strikes on North Vietnamese artillery sites. His unwavering devotion to his country earned him six Oak Leaf Clusters. Air Medals are Oak Leaf clusters. Following his active duty, George continued to serve in the Texas Air National Guard and later in the United States Air Force Reserves before receiving honorable discharges as a Staff Sergeant on February 26, 1983, and March 25, 1985, respectively.
Parallel to his military pursuits, George built a career in education and business. He worked for eCollege.com, which is now part of Pearson.com, where he led departments focused on generating and curating remote education content for colleges and universities. His professional journey also included a successful tenure as a licensed insurance adjuster in Alabama and Florida, as well as a role as a salesman with a copier company in Houston.
George’s academic achievements were noteworthy; he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of West Florida on December 16, 1975, followed by a Master's degree from Troy State University of Dothan on June 1, 1997. He was also a proud member of the Delta Tau Fraternity, Zeta Iota Chapter, forming lasting bonds with fellow members throughout his life.
Outside his professional and military life, George's passion for connecting with people was unparalleled. He had an infectious personality, never meeting a stranger, and was known for his deep friendships. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, pastimes that held significant meaning for him throughout his upbringing.
George Robert Adams leaves behind a legacy of patriotism, dedication to education, and genuine human connection that will be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Martha Adams.
Survivors include two sisters, Barbara A. Woodham, Oklahoma City, OK, Dawn E. Hill, Marianna, FL; two nephews, David R. Woodham, Boise, ID, Patrick Hill, Marianna, FL; niece, Hannah Truette, Marianna, FL; great-nephew, Drew Jakala, Austin, TX; great-niece, Emma Jakala, Austin, TX.
