Edwin “Sammy” Lowrey Jr. of Elba, AL passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Flowers Hospital. He was 81.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, July 17, 2026, at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Donnie Marler officiating and Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.

Sammy took care of his house, cutting grass and even built most of his home. He was a true jack of all trades, if he wanted to do or fix something he would. Liked to work on old cars in his shop. He was an enthusiastic history buff, and a proud U.S. Marine. Loved Alabama football “Roll Tide” but loved his family and grandchildren the most.

He was preceded in death by his grandchildren Ramsey Buteaux, Dane Moormann; sister, Marsha Oggs; parents, Conway and Corine Lowrey.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years Ellen Lowrey, Elba, AL; daughter, Danon Moormann, Elba, AL; son, Ashley Young (Connie), Brimingham, AL; three grandchildren, Sam Riley Buteaux, Elba, AL, Callen Cole (Pete), Birmingham, AL, Lowrey Young, Birmingham, AL; three great-grandchildren, Isaac Buteaux, AdaLane Cole, Trip Cole; sister, Sandra Carpenter, Knoxville, TN.
