Donald Mercer Ellis

Don (Duck) Ellis, 88, of Enterprise passed away Sunday, July 27, 2025, at UAB Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 1, 2025, at First Methodist Church of Enterprise with Rev. Matt Jordan officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Methodist Church of Enterprise, 217 Main Street, Enterprise, AL 36330.

Don was the proud owner and operator of Ellis Marine for many years, where he combined his love for the outdoors with a strong work ethic and commitment to customer service. After retiring from business ownership, he continued to stay active by working at Lowe’s for over 24 years, where he became a familiar and friendly face to many.

Outside of work, Don also served as the secretary for the Enterprise Lions Club for over 25 years. He had a passion for gardening and woodworking. He found peace and joy spending time at Turkey Hill, where he cultivated not just plants and projects, but memories with friends and family. His love of the outdoors and craftsmanship were matched only by his kind spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann Ellis.

Survivors include his son, Joe Ellis (Dianah), Birmingham, AL; three grandchildren, Mercer, Shepherd, and Martha May Ellis.
