IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David
Hammett
September 4, 1946 – February 16, 2026
David Hammett of Chancellor, AL passed away, Monday, February 16, 2026. He was 79.
A Celebration of Life services will be announced at a later date.
David was truly a jack of all trades — a man who seemed ten feet tall and bulletproof to those who knew and loved him, he will be dearly missed. You could always find him in his shop humming along with 96.9 The Legend. He had a natural gift for “piddling” and making things work, often improving items beyond their original design. A true backyard engineer, David was exceptionally intelligent, possessing both book smarts and strong common sense. He was a devoted history buff with a deep appreciation for learning and discovery. David proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he was an aircraft mechanic.
David loved traveling across the United States with his beloved wife and travel companion, creating lasting memories along the way. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, holding a special place in his heart for his children and grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Ernie Hammett.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Gail Hammett, Chancellor, AL; three daughters, Martinique Hammett, Jacksonville, FL, Tammy Webb (Tony), Cumming, GA, Sherry Lathem (Michael), Cumming, GA; five sons, David Hammett, Jacksonville, FL, Jason Hammett, Dothan, AL, Matthew Hammett (Alexis), Jacksonville, FL, Randy Hammett (Laura), Dawsonville, GA, Leslie Hammett, Alamo, GA; nine grandsons; two granddaughters; three great grandsons; two sisters Cheryl Driscol, Woodstock, GA, Vicki Dickman (Dale), Donalsonville, GA; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
