Clifford Benjamin (Ben) Buck, Jr., devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026. He was 95 years old.
Services will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 302 East Grubbs Street, Enterprise, AL, on January 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception. Burial will be at a later date at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Fernandina Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Enterprise, AL, or a charity of your choice.
He was born February 1, 1930, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and was the only child of Clifford Benjamin Buck, Sr. and Carrie Mae Arsenault Buck.
Ben graduated from Bartow High School, Bartow, FL, in 1948. While living in Bartow, he met his beautiful future wife when he was 16 and she was 15, Dorothy (Dolly) Hargrove, from Bartow, FL. He attended the University of Florida and graduated with a BSBA degree in 1952. Ben and Dolly married on August 24, 1952.
He entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lt. in Field Artillery and was stationed at Camp Rucker, Alabama, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and then to Korea in 1953 through 1954.
In 1956, Ben and his family moved to Berkeley, California, where he began a career with State Farm Insurance that spanned 15 years. During this career, the family lived in Santa Rosa, California, Frederick, Maryland, and the Home Office in Bloomington, Illinois.
In 1969, Ben left State Farm and moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and joined Continental Insurance Company of New York in 1970. The family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, in 1971, then to the Home Office in New York City where they remained there except for a 2 year stint in Chicago, Illinois. Ben retired from Continental Insurance Co. in 1985, and moved to Amelia Island, Florida.
During their retirement years, they traveled extensively to England, Europe, Asia, Canada and throughout the United States.
In 2015, Ben and Dolly moved to Enterprise, Alabama, to be closer to family. After 70 wonderful years of being together, his wife passed away on March 12, 2016.
Ben was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Hargrove Buck, and a son, Benjamin Waldo Buck, Sr.
He is survived by his loving son, John Milton Buck (Kitty), Enterprise, AL, grandchildren, Katie Buck Cotter (Adam), Enterprise, AL, and John Benjamin Buck (Ashley) of Fort Walton Beach, FL, and his great grandchildren: John Hagan Cotter, Luke Hargrove Cotter and Kathryn Adele Cotter of Enterprise, AL, and Maxine Della Buck and Benjamin Evans Buck of Fort Walton Beach, FL.
He was active in the Kings Bay, GA, Rotary Club, the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club and an honorary member of the Enterprise Rotary Club. He was a Paul Harris Fellow, Will Watt Fellow, and served as President of the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club in 2000-2001.
He is a member of The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Enterprise, AL, and has been active in both the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Fernandina Beach, FL, and the Church of the Good Shepherd in Cashiers, N.C.
The family wishes to give special thanks to all his caregivers at the Enterprise Health and Rehabilitation Center and to Dayspring Hospice, especially his nurses for their loving care, compassion, and devotion during these past several months.
