Charles Leo Grimes of Huntsville, AL passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Huntsville Hospital. He was 75.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Wooten Chapel Assembly of God Church with Rev. Mike Medley officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00PM until service time. Burial with military honors will be held at 12:30PM EST, January 6, 2026 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, AL with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.
Following 22 years of service, Mr. Grimes retired from the US Army as a SSG (E6). After retirement, he made a career in law enforcement, serving as a Corrections Officer for the State of Maryland and as a Deputy with the Houston County, AL Sheriff’s Office. His final career was a Security Officer at Redstone Arsenal military base. Those who knew Mr. Grimes will remember his strong faith, his devotion to his family, and his warm, welcoming spirit. He never met a stranger and found great pleasure in vintage cars, NASCAR, and Alabama football.
Mr. Grimes was preceded in death by his parents, John (Pat) and Bernie Mae Grimes; and a sister, Linda Kay McKay.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Hart Brown Grimes, Huntsville, AL; daughters, Sherry Grimes, Columbus, GA; Christy Grimes, Lawrenceville, GA, Kimberly Grimes Acree, Columbus, GA; son, Andy Brown (Sandy), Chatom, AL; grandchildren, Taylor Davis (Emilie), Ashley Mills, Christen Garrick (Michael), Ryan Brown; great-grandchildren, Slade and Sadie Garrick; a sister, Rita Faye Grimes Deal (Clark) many cousin, nieces and nephews.
