June Huggins Waites was born on October 23, 1933, and went home to be with our Lord on March 29, 2026.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 6, 2026, at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Rev. Sonny Moore and Dr. Ben Bowden officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM and continuing until service time. Burial will follow at Meadowlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to First Baptist Church, 302 N. Main Street, Enterprise, AL 36330 or to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, 2681 Rocky Ridge Lane, Birmingham, AL 35216.
Carolyn June was born in Troy, AL to William Andrew and Annie Laura (Hattaway) Huggins. She grew up on a farm in the Harmony community. She attended Troy public schools and graduated from Troy State Teacher’s College. She taught several grades throughout her 36 years of teaching. She taught two years at Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, one year at Enterprise High School, and half a year at New Brockton High School and 32 ½ years at Daleville High School. She was chosen as one of five top high school teachers in Alabama in 1985.
She was a very active, long-time member of Enterprise First Baptist Church. She was a loving, Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother as well as a devoted friend to many. June loved going to “the farm” with Ed where they managed their trees. She was a hard worker that instilled a strong work ethic in her children and students. She enjoyed walking: she spent much of that time in prayer.
She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Edmond Joyce Waites; her two daughters Cindy Waites, Janet (David) Skidmore of Union Grove; one sister Deborah (Paul) Davis of Troy; three grandchildren Will Dillard of Leighton, Melissa Wakefield (Tyler) of Tuscaloosa, and Mary Skidmore of Union Grove and two great grandchildren, Caroline Kay and Ralph Wade Wakefield of Tuscaloosa.
She was predeceased by her parents, William and Annie Laura Huggins of Troy; a brother Hubert Huggins, a sister Dorothy Jinright both of Troy, and a sister Louise McDuffie of Perdido.
