Anna Merle Pouncey Harris

With hearts full of gratitude for a life so richly lived, we announce the homegoing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. At the young age of 98, Anna Merle Harris waltzed to meet Jesus on September 23, 2026. She was at home, surrounded by loved ones.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2026, at First Baptist Church Enterprise, with Dr. Ben Bowden officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Clayhatchee, with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.

Anna was preceded in death by her loving husband, Troy Harris; her parents, Earl and Annie Belle Pouncey; sisters Edna Lane of Dothan, Alabama; Aurelia Skidmore of Dothan, Alabama; and Shirley Faye Pouncey of Clayhatchee, Alabama; and brother Harry Pouncey of Clayhatchee, Alabama. She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Moskau of Metairie, Louisiana; and Peggy Baker of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; her four daughters, Margaret Lindsey (Jack) of Enterprise, Alabama; Linda Nichols of Fort Worth, Texas; Judy Post (Harvey) of Enterprise, Alabama; and Sarah Ware (Bill) of Jacksonville, Florida; and her ten grandchildren, Walt Walden (Heather), Michelle Walden Fink (Scott), Cathy Johnson, Mike Nichols (Melissa), Randy Nichols (Jennifer), Gary Nichols (Laynie), Nichole Visser (Randy), Grant Roberts (Beth), Amber Edington Labagh (Nate), and Kasi Edington Bonilla. Anna is also survived by 18 great- grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous other loved ones who were truly blessed to have had her in their lives.

Lovingly known as “Bope” by her Clayhatchee family, kinfolk and friends, as well as Mom, Mother, Grandmother, Grandma, and Grammer, Anna was a force of nature, our Rock and heart of the family. She possessed an extraordinary strength, determination, resilience, and what she would simply call “grit in her craw.” Her love for her family, and for everyone her family brought to the table, was unmatched.

Anna trusted God through every chapter of her life and taught all of us that it is a much better existence to do the same. She began her life on the family farm, picking cotton, milking cows, slopping hogs, and helping prepare meals for her family, neighbors, and military boarders from Fort Rucker. In those days, making room for others meant that all the children sometimes slept together in one bed. She learned early what it meant to work hard, “make do”, and take care of others. During her life, she also ran a gas station, a public club and worked in retail (she loved fine china), and, through it all, cared for and supported her four daughters. She met life's challenges with the same determination she carried since childhood and there was very little she was afraid to “tackle”, except leaving her family.

Anna’s life was a testament to faith, strength, perseverance, and a deep love of family. Those gifts and memories she leaves with us are the legacy we will carry forward. We will miss her smile, her laughter, her delicious cooking and baking, the comfort of holding her time-worn hands, and her unmistakable feistiness more than words can say, but we take comfort knowing that she is standing upright, dancing along the streets of

Glory, hand in hand with Jesus - our Rock now rests in Peace. Your work here is done Anna Merle and your faith has carried you home. Rest peacefully with all our love. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Anna’s memory with a memorial donation to the chapel where she began her walk with the Lord, Old Providence, or to FBC Enterprise, where she faithfully worshiped much of her life.
