I am very surprised and saddened to hear of Rick's passing. Although I never had the opportunity to meet Rick in person, he and I have been corresponding by e-mail generally several times a day, particularly discussing politics and Southern Heritage issues, and I will surely miss that.
My most sincere condolences to Rick's family on his passing, and may God bless you.

Goodbye old friend. I am so so sorry that I never got around to actually visiting you. The distance may have been great (over 1000 miles), but when matched against the shortness of life itself, it was no excuse. Thank you for giving me insights into the South and its people, insights I would never have otherwise had, not being a Southerner myself. I shall miss our emails and most especially our looooong phone conversations. Sleep peacefully old friend.

Rick and I discovered each other several years ago (5 or 6) when Rick queried me via emails concerning our common Russ family roots. Rick and I shared a common great, great, great grandfather, James Russ (1774-1827) of Brunswick Co, NC. We had discovered that we were "distant cousins" but it was much more than that...we became instant life long friends, we had so much in common..our love for our Confederate ancestors...we were both members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV), our concern for the future of our country. I received emails daily from Rick and looked forward to them. He was a modern day, Paul Revere, obsessed with doing all he could to prevent Obama's reelection. I visited with Rick on two occasions at his home in Elba, Ala. He moved to Opp, Ala and we had talked about us having another visit so we could "talk" more. Rick was a good man and he truly seemed to me to be like the brother that I never had. I feel a huge void of despair over his untimely death. I can only offer my heartfelt and most sincere condolences to Rick's family for their lost. We all can take comfort in knowing that Rick is now in eternal peace in Heaven with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
